SUMMARY:Urban Drainage Group Annual Conference & Expo 2021
DESCRIPTION:CIWEM’s Urban Drainage Group continues its long tradition of hosting its annual conference in the autumn as the culmination of a year of highly regarded virtual events across the whole industry\, attracting speakers and delegates both nationally and internationally. \nWith the upcoming COP26 Climate Change Conference in Glasgow this Autumn and the continuing development of Drainage and Wastewater Management Plans in mind\, our theme centres around our response to quantifying and more importantly managing Climate Change and adapting our solutions to be both resilient and meet Net Zero challenges related to urban drainage management. \nThis autumn we are again hosting a virtual technical conference\, building on the success of last year and our attendance at the recent CIWEM Flood & Coast event\, we will be providing an experience as closely matched to our traditional physical event as possible. \nWe recognise how our community values getting together and sharing its ideas on best practice\, innovation and partnership working in urban drainage and will be delivering a packed agenda of CPD-accredited panel sessions\, technical papers\, panel discussion\, and\, returning this year\, workshops. In addition\, we will be hosting a virtual exhibition to enable our sponsors and delegates to interact and share the experience. \nWe are pleased to announce that this year’s conference will take place on the Hopin platform. The platform is designed to feel like an in-person event — not only will delegates be able to interact with speakers through the live Q&A and sessions but with fellow delegates\, too. As a delegate you will be able to take part in group work\, share your views through the chat\, take part in speed-networking and arrange meetings with fellow delegates. We hope you will enjoy this new platform but most importantly\, we hope you enjoy the content. \nThe conference will include the award of the WaPUG Prize 2021.

SUMMARY:Environment Agency : Achieving net zero webinar
DESCRIPTION:As an operator and a regulator\, the Environment Agency has a leading role in helping the country get to net zero by 2050\, a commitment the UK government set out in law in 2019. The Environment Agency\, including their supply chain has set a challenging target of reaching net zero by 2030\, as outlined in their Reaching Net Zero Strategy published earlier this year. \nThis event will showcase the latest thinking from the Environment Agency on making this ambition a reality. The session will be led by senior individuals within the organisation\, discussing the roadmap to net zero\, some of the latest innovations helping to accelerate the transition to low carbon construction and operations and an example of delivery in practice from a major project recently completed on the Kent coastline.

SUMMARY:Flood & Coast 2021
DESCRIPTION:Day 1 | Mon\, 28 Jun: Delivering Together \nOne Day 1 we share lessons learned from recent flood events and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on response and recovery. We explore the critical role of digital technology and local community support networks in building social resilience. \nDay 2 | Tue\, 29 Jun: Future skills\, knowledge and tools / A nation resilient to climate change \nOn Day 2 we showcase our industry’s latest approaches to everything from hydraulics\, modelling and forecasting to nature-based solutions. We celebrate the achievements and leadership of women in the sector and we hear how the five nations are tackling climate change – and what we can learn from one another. \nDay 3 | Wed\, 30 Jun: Creating green and sustainable places \nOn Day 3 we unpack what it takes to create safe\, future-proof spaces and discuss the initiatives paving the way from property flood resilience to sustainable drainage. \nDay 4 | Thu\, 1 Jul: Adaptive planning and thought leadership \nOn Day 4 we discuss how allowing local places to make the right decisions at the right time can lead to real transformation. As COP26 draws nearer\, we call for clear climate change adaptation priorities. \nRegistration Costs \nA one-day ticket is £72 (or £216 for all four days) giving you full access to the conference\, expo and networking areas. SUMMARY:Natural Flood Management In The East Midlands
DESCRIPTION:Natural flood management (NFM) methods are not totally new\, but are growing in importance as a means of providing protection for people’s homes\, property\, land and business whilst working closely with nature and the environment. \nThe Environment Agency have been seeking to develop and spread the use of NFM techniques alongside the more traditional “hard engineering” processes. \nWithin the East Midlands area\, the EA have peen piloting some NFM projects and this talk is intended to share knowledge and lessons learned from these pilot projects and look towards how the future of NFM could be used to tackle flood risk into the future. Learning opportunities include: \n\nKnowledge of how NFM projects can be delivered from conception\, through design and into construction\nLessons learned in approaching NFM and partnerships\n\nClick here to find out more and register
